If you're reading the series, you pretty much know what you're in for. It's the same series, it's comparable to the previous books in the series, don't expect a disappointment nor an amazing surprise improvement.
The one major difference is this book has significantly more large-scale action, ie. battle scenes, than the previous books which mostly topped out at fight scenes. That's not my favorite thing - in other books I've been known to skim-read battle scenes - but they're fairly tastefully done here, I never felt the need to skim.
Other than that, I felt this book was a small improvement over the others, in terms of pacing and ease of reading - but I'm not sure that's not just from me getting more comfortable with the book's jargon. "Chucklebuck" still makes me wince a little every time.
Mike's got skills and a good editor. Great story and clean prose.
I am totally absorbed by the series. This book did not dissapoint. It kept me engaged with many twists and turns and plenty of surprises. I have thoroughly enjoyed the series thus far and can't wait for the final episode.
I can't wait until the next book in this series! You know how in some movie sequels the quality goes down? Some book series also sadly do that, -BUT- not this series to date!
It seems like Sheriff wrote a single novel and broke it into what will be (6?) books? The flow is smooth and seamless as can be! So far I've read each installment in 1 to 2 sittings with total pleasure and enjoyment.

I currently love reading dystopian and sci fi books and this series is one of the most addictive I've come across. Such detail and creativity mesh to create a very interesting (and scary) take on the future. As you read you can picture this world in all its beauty and terror. Great plot and characters that draw you in but make sure and read the first two books in the series. I love supporting independent writers, wish I had the imagination to come up with a story like this. It's also refreshing to see original cover artwork too. Very cool!
With an honest, responsible leader in charge, the empire is thriving. Using the seed vault, the empire is also weaning off the grooll. In addition, the new emperor has stopped the monthly culling of so many youth. However, the selfish niece of the last emperor uses the outsiders to reclaim the empire, so the good people are on the run - temporarily. As always, the characters are complex and scheming. The book ends with a cliffhanger, but the author promises the wait will be worth it. I still love the story and look forward to the next sequel.
I got the first book because it was free on , and before I knew it I was buying books #2 and #3. I absolutely loved the story and even though there were some predictable parts, the majority of it let you think you knew what was going to happen, but twisted in a completely different way. I found myself a couple times upset by this, only to find out later why the events rolled out how they did. The imagery was fun for me as well. Mike did a terrific job of helping the reader visualize the scenes. This was very important when trying to "see" a glass world made up of colors and sculptures. I was offered the 4th book in the series for free as part of an "early adopters" program the author ran but decided to purchase it anyway. I want to make sure every little bit of support keeps Mike Sheriff writing! Big thank you to the author!
